I went to survey this movie with an African American friend. When he told me about the movie I figured I might not be able to characterize, because it was about an African American family. And, in this society we all sometimes collect caught up in our differences as opposed to what makes us so worthy alike. By the slay of this movie, I felt like I had unprejudiced seen the best family movie that I had ever seen. Regardless of the ethnic make-up of the family. Soul Food as certainly more than a movie about an African American family. It is a movie about strong family values and how those values are challenged by tragedy, jobs, deciet, miscommunication and betrayal. This movie depicts how a family can overcome all of those obstacles and enjoy the most famous value of them all… care for for family.

As I further plan about what I had seen, I realized how rare we peer movies of this nature featuring African Americans. I also realized how shaded it is that most non-African Americans won’t go to peruse this movie for that reason alone. If they only knew how mighty they missed.

In addition to being hungry following this movie, I also felt a warm spirit advance over me. And, I also realized that murky or white, family values are gorgeous distinguished the same. Finally, I realized unprejudiced how powerful I miss sitting down with my family over dinner. So, the following Sunday, my wife and I gathered our children, their grandparents and a few family friends and we had the best dinner I’ve experienced in a long time. We’ve now made this a tradition. Now if I and my wife can learn to cook the method they did in Soul Food….

I can perceive this movie all day long.. this movie reminds me so mighty of my family when i was coming up the sunday dinners, objective being around each other, the sibling riviarly i can most defintely record to.. this a breath of original air from the normal hood type movies.. yes that is a portion of life but it honest a fraction of life .. Beneficial to sight us as african american people seein an another light .. Hats off to Producers, Directors, Writers .. Worship the soundtrack also !

The college dorm’s resident “out and proud” elated couple, Olaf (“Gunn”) and Nathan, are going home to exhaust Christmas with their respective families, and those families couldn’t be more different. Whereas “trust fund baby” Nathan’s parents are rather frigid, status-seeking yuppies, Olaf’s parents are a couple of obsolete hippies who commence decorating their home for the holidays months before. When Nathan’s parents stand him up to go on a holiday soar, he decides to surprise Olaf by joining him at his parents, only to accumulate out that his parents have no clue that he is joyful. Nathan immediately tries to “butch it up” a bit, but is disappointed and damage that Olaf is unable – more like unwilling – to introduce him as his boyfriend.

A sweet and attractive, though somewhat corny, sage about honesty, self-acceptance and – ultimately – the meaning of like. Newcomer Keith Jordan does a genuine job as the emotionally conflicted Olaf, and is surrounded by an beneficial cast of stale character actors, including Derek Long (“3-Day Weekend” and several other satisfied films) as Olaf’s stoner dad, actress/voiceover artist Kelly Keaton as his jolly mother, Hallee Hirsh (who played Dr. Greene’s daughter on “ER”) as Olaf’s supposed girlfriend Abby, Alison Arngrin (best know as Nellie Olsen on “Runt House on the Prairie”) as Abby’s mom, Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher on “Star Trek: TNG”) as Nathan’s mom, and Adamo Ruggiero (Marco for five seasons on “Degrassi: The Next Generation”) as Nathan. The direction and technical aspects seem flawless, and there are even a half dozen or so fresh songs on the soundtrack. DVD isn’t rated, but would likely be PG; definitely a film you could (and should) fragment with your parents and younger siblings. Accepted at several elated film festivals, and in a minute theatrical race, this impartial might become a timeless happy holiday classic. Ogle out for the mistletoe over the doorway, and I give “Yuletide” a fleshy five stars out of five.

Rob Williams became a hero in Exiguous Rock when we showed his first movie, “Long Term Relationship” some two months ago. He followed that with the unbelievable “Benefit Soon” and “Three Day Weekend” and now he has a really tall hit on his hands, “Get the Yuletide Contented”. Our hero, Olaf “Gunn” Gunnunderson, is a student who is out and proud (to everyone except his parents) and forces himself to go aid in the closet when he goes home for Christmas vacation. His parents are a unique pair of Midwesterners but when Gunn’s boyfriend, Nathan, shows up unannounced, Gunn has to pretend to be something her is not so that he can hold both the relationship with his parents and with Nathan going.

There is something about a Christmas movie that makes it endearing. Williams and his partner, Rodney Johnson, felt that since there are so few tickled Christmas movies available, that it was time for a unusual one. Most of us remember going home for the holidays and when you add a delighted aspect to that, it becomes all the more endearing.

Keith Jordan as Olaf (“Gunn”) is a small dreamboat and is apt as the college student who has to camouflage who he is. He is able to stop cold around his parents, Kelly Keaton as Anja and Derek Long as Sven. They are very amusing and accomplish an ideal couple. When Gunn’s mother tries to fix him up with one of the girls he grew up with, we meet Abby (Hallee Hirsh), Adamo Ruggiero is Nathan, Gunn’s boyfriend and he is convincing as the abominable slight rich boy who wants so badly to be loved. The movie is very, very humorous and sexy as well but it is the emotions we feel that execute this film so special.

The film has been received well on the festival circuit and will be released on DVD in November by TLA. Releasing.

When the film ends, it seems to me that there will probably be a sequel. This is a fun film that will get you laugh as well as give you a sense of ecstatic pride. After all, the Christmas season always brings smiles and with “Beget the Yuletide Happy”, you can have a tiny Christmas everyday. Kudos to Occupy Williams for giving us another vast film.
